Roller Derby Rundown: Championship bout

Tension hung in the air like an electric charge at the championship bout of the Alamo City Rollergirls. The Dragon Divas won the 2007 title when they beat The Missyfits 102 to 93. The action will resume again next spring.

Venture Crew 100 is a brand new group for 14- to 21-year-old boys and girls who enjoy high adventure activities like canoeing, hiking and camping. On Sept. 8, the nine-member Crew canoed down the Nueces River with a group of Boy Scouts.

Gifts Galore, a shop in Pleasanton, is well known for its chocolate tamales. Owner Catherine Brown said she came up with the recipe in a dream. The store seems double blessed, because it also survived a recent fire.
