The children of St. Matthew Catholic Church — dressed as angels, shepherds, Jesus, Mary and Joseph — recreate the first Christmas at the church’s pageant on Monday.

Children got sports balls, skateboards and barbies at the Hermes Music Project of Love event on Dec. 23 at the Freeman Coliseum.

Because of the numerous toy recalls this year, parents need to be careful what they buy their children for Christmas even though some retailers have created toy safety programs. Some alternatives are available such as buying toys from specialty shops that only sell European-made items.
