I was honored this weekend to travel to Milwaukee to present a session about online video for the Wisconsin News Photographers Association.

I talked about challenges for still photographers moving to video, how to choose stories for video, different types of video story forms, and I highlighted some great online resources to learn video. The presentation was sort of stylized around a similar article that I wrote for Quill magazine, and a presentation I gave at the National Association of Hispanic Journalists Region 5 Convention.

I was humbled and honored to be speaking with some amazing photojournalists. I was so inspired by seeing their work.

Michael Kienitz showed and talked about his documentary photojournalism project Small Arms: Children of Conflict. He photographed children in Northern Ireland in the early 1980s, and actually tracked them down now to find out what had happened in their lives.

Eugene Richards showed a variety of the work he’s done throughout his career. His pictures elicited such a strong emotional response from everyone who saw them. It really makes me want to go out and commit some kick ass acts of journalism. I was inspired.

Frazer Harrison, a celebrity photographer for Getty Images, had everyone on the edge of their seats despite themselves. Who can resist the candid moments and gossip of the rich and famous?
