An altar for Viola Barrios

The Institute of Texan Cultures will display a Day of the Dead Altar for restaurant owner Viola Barrios through Nov. 2. The beloved woman became nationally known for the home-style Mexican cooking she served at Los Barrios, a restaurant she started with $3,000. This spring an intruder killed her during an overnight home robbery, shocking the San Antonio community. Listen to her two youngest children, Louis Barrios and Diana Barrios Treviño, explain the significance of items they lent the institute for the altar.
