Skills
On a typical week, I produce videos for three to four daily assignments, and use additional time to work on long-term projects. For a typical assignment, I spend about two hours shooting and three hours editing. I commonly pull framegrabs from videos for publication in the newspaper. I shoot with a Sony HVR-Z1U and edit with Final Cut Pro, although I am comfortable teaching myself other cameras and editing systems.
Some of my long-term projects involve documentary-style coverage. For example, for eight months I followed the family of an Iraq war veteran who was recovering from a serious injury. Other long-term projects involve the creation of interactive graphics like a map of fitness trails or a presentation about birds changing ranges due to global warming. I enterprise the ideas for many of my long-term projects.
I am also experienced in recording audio with a Marantz solid state audio recorder and editing with Soundtrack Pro, Audacity or Garage Band. I am familiar with many web publishing languages and softwares including HTML, CSS, ActionScript, Flash, Dreamweaver and Wordpress. Because I worked as a print reporter for three years during college, I am also skilled at reporting and writing.
