Skills
During my time at Tierra Studios, I have become an expert at using social media sites such as Facebook, MySpace and specialized music networks to make contacts and promote content. I gained experience customizing CSS and using Wordpress as a content management system. I’ve used my previous skills in reporting, writing, photography and videography to produce content for the studio and its artists.
While at the San Antonio Express-News, I used a Sony HVR-Z1U and Final Cut Pro to produce videos for three to four daily assignments per week. I commonly pulled framegrabs from videos for publication in the newspaper. Some of my long-term, enterprise projects involved documentary-style coverage, including a story about the family of an Iraq war veteran who was recovering from a serious injury. Other long-term projects involved the creation of interactive graphics like a map of fitness trails in San Antonio.
I can also record and edit audio and create pieces using HTML, CSS, ActionScript, Flash, Dreamweaver and Wordpress. Because I worked as a print reporter for three years during college, I can report and write on deadline, develop sources and story ideas, and cover a beat. I still use these skills daily on my blog News Videographer.
I have invested significant time and energy over the past few years in training other journalists to shoot and edit video. I taught 30 Express-News reporters video skills using a curriculum I developed for intensive day-long workshops. I also created and presented programs for Visual Editors and the Center for Innovation in College Media.
