Skills

As the sole producer for two hyperlocal news Web sites, I became a master at juggling my schedule to meet multiple deadlines on any given day. I report and write efficiently and accurately, and cultivate the trust of inside sources to discover and tell important stories.

As a true multimedia reporter, I can produce text, video and photos for stories when they call for multimedia. While at the San Antonio Express-News, I used a Sony HVR-Z1U and Final Cut Pro to produce videos for daily assignments and I commonly pulled video framegrabs for publication in the newspaper. In the online sphere, I’ve used social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to make contacts and promote content, and I can customize WordPress templates to design and manage complex Web sites.

In addition, I have invested significant energy over the past few years in training other journalists to shoot and edit video. For example, I write the popular online video blog News Videographer, I’ve spoken at multiple journalism conferences, and I taught 30 Express-News reporters video skills using a curriculum I developed for intensive day-long workshops.
